Buy The DVD!: Jesus Franco's Count Dracula

Franco's version of the Count's tale is notable for a couple of reasons.  First, it is one of the most accurate representations of the books.  Two, it is one of the few films to use the actual description of Dracula for their main character.  Third, it is a non-Hammer film to feature Christopher Lee playing the role.  Oh yeah, it also bombed horribly.

What you're asking though is 'why is he mentioning this movie?'  Well, for one unique extra on the DVD...

Christopher Lee reading Bram Stoker's Dracula!

That's right- an audio recording of the world's most famous living Dracula reading Dracula.  What's not to love?

*Warning- your opinion of the movie itself may vary from your opinion of this awesome extra.*

Up next, another Franco film notable for a segment that actually explains a lot.  The movie...not so much.  Stay tuned...

  2. It's not a terrible film, but it is a pretty wasted opportunity. This is apparent when you consider that it stars Christopher Lee as Dracula and Klaus Kinski as Renfield. How can you go wrong with that cast?!?

On a side note, I'm eagerly awaiting a re-release of the remake of Nosferatu starring Kinski. That has promise.
