Lost TV: Stephen King's Hidden Years- The Conclusion!

Due to some odd Episode spacing and unsureness on my part, I decided to just watch the last 55 minutes here and finish the Series.  It also makes sense to do it before I move to the new Website.

Here's hoping for something good in this extra long wrap-up...

Two of our Heroes make it to the blind Daughter's House.  Why they separated them when they arrive 5 minutes apart (in screen time, that is) is anyone's guess.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pichunter is resuming his work some more and won't take 'no' for an answer.

Actually, he does...and just slaps a lab coat on a Cleaning Guy.

Speaking of Blind Daughter, she is Satan!  Call a Priest!!!!

 We get the most Action in the whole Series when a gun fight breaks out.  In the process, the evil guy shoots a Seeing-Eye Dog!

They hide out with some Hippies that know Blind Satan Daughter, but one of them sells the group out.  On the plus side, Ed Lauter dressed like a Grateful Dead Fan.

Dr.Tropicthunder's experiment seems to work as a clock runs backwards.  That or it is just messing with the magnet.

I can't wait to see this get resolved...never.

A shoot-out occurs that leads to the death of Root, the bad Hippie and a few others.  One of them comes as evil guy shoots a car a few times to make it explode!  That's what you get for still driving that Pinto.

The 4 important people escape...only to be immediately found.  The wife is shot, but Harlan uses his powers for only the second time to....um...disappear.  See you never again.

After killing the bad guy, Lauter and the Agent wander off into the Sunset, having broken numerous laws, lost their rank and killed a guy.  The (happy?) End- since the Show was not picked up for a full Series.

A good conclusion...until the actual conclusion.  Putting aside the 'Oh, we're not getting more Episodes after all' bit from the end, the Show does wrap up pretty well.  Characters grow, characters move and characters die.  Everyone somehow finds their way to the same location by the end too.  Obviously the Dr. HunterXHunter stuff just kind of stopped, but oh well.  The only real complaint is that they kind of dawdled a bit early on, leaving them a bit rushed for some things.  By the Series' end, Harlan looks be in his early-40s.  How far could they have gone?  How far would they have gone?  This is kind of an awkward one because it gives you lots of interesting ideas and never quite does enough with them.  It is not *too* hard to see why it is still fairly-obscure.  I own it on DVD now, so at least I can enjoy it.  As I wrap up my look at this Show, I just ask one important, burning question: why did Felicity Huffman need to be in her underwear for this Scene?

Lost TV: Stephen King's Golden Years- Episode 5

As time waits for no man, so can I no longer wait to talk about...

In this Episode, our Villain is away from the Base and gets locked out from the information.

Stephen Root- Super Hacker.

Hacking Scenes sure were weird back in the '90s and this is no exception.

The trio splits up to look less conspicuous, the wife and Agent taking a bus.  Just keep talking about the Lab Explosion in front of this lady pretending to be asleep, ladies!

Speaking of the Bus, say 'Hi' to Stephen King and his random cameo!

As for Harlan, he finally gets a ride from a Trucker, but passes out and strange things start to happen. 

Harlan unconsciously seems to move time itself forward- as shown by shots of this Trucker staring.

What is going on?  To find out, keep watching...

Some good, some bad.  This one does an odd thing by making its main Villain be completely useless the whole time.  To be fair, this is clearly a counterpoint to last Episode in which Ed Lauter's General lost all of his power.  I get that.  It just feels weird to see this direct, confrontational guy just sitting around waiting for a phone call.  This whole Episode is not quite as filler as one before it, but it is close.  It is mostly about them just trying to get from one place to another.  In fairness, the stuff that does happen at the end certainly makes up for most of it.  I did complain about the lack of Stephen Root recently too, so I guess I have to be happy here.  All in all, this Episode is pretty forgettable save for the end, King's Cameo and that sneaky Boom Mic...

Next time, an explanation for Harlan's powers?  I sure hope so.  See you then...

Lost TV: Stephen King's Golden Years- Episode 4

In all of the 'Holiday' stuff, I forgot about this Show.  Don't worry- it was just a short break.

It turns out that our Heroes left just in time, as the Villain shows up shortly thereafter.

 Now on the run, they decide to make their escape vehicle gaudy enough to distract people.

Meanwhile, Dr. Toadwarrior has begun to resume his experiments after finding out about Harland's results.  

Uh oh.

In a nice, quiet moment, Harland consoles his wife who fears that his youth-ening will ruin their marriage.  

Aww.

To help his next play, the Villain has the lone Doctor left steal Harland's files and then blows him up with them!  

Now to frame someone else...

With Todmcfarlane's help and the missing evidence, Andrews has usurped the General and is leading the hunt his way.  To be continued...

Well, this was definitely more eventful!  

This time, people of importance died, the Plot progressed and Characters had some nice moments.  It would be interesting to think what would have happened with the Mini-Series if they knew that they had a shorter timeframe.  Knowing that this wouldn't come to Series, would they have picked up the pace?  The whole thing is just about four Hours in total, so they weren't lacking for time to fill!  

Tangent aside, this one did one thing I thought was interesting.  Harland is continually de-aging, but it was more subtle this time.  Early one, he still has some gray and some dark brown hair.  By the last shot, his hair was a more light brown.  They didn't hang on a shot of it or talk about it- it just was.  Nice.  Aside from no Stephen Root, this was a real nice Episode that personifies what the Show was about.

Keep it up for Episode 5.  

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to check on Dr. Tomstoppard- he seems to be having issues...

Next time, the pressure mounts and Harland changes more.  Who will make it to the end?  See you then...

Lost TV: Stephen King's Golden Years- Episode 3

Lest you think that I forgot about Reviewing this Show, I didn't.  Holidays are fun, but let me return to this DVD...

As our Hero continues to de-age, the Investigator continues to look into the case.  His method?

He kills people.

He didn't shoot him in the eye though, since...I guess that would be too ironic.

As our Hero tries to hide his de-aging by dying his browning hair gray again, this guy kills a Reporter that went to the Crime Scene.

Seems like a pointless body for the pile, but whatever.

The nice Investigator- Huffman- talks with her Boss/Boyfriend Lauter.  She decides to make a big move...

She goes to see our Hero and tries to help them hide.  Okay, at least one important thing happened this time...

The Show is still good, but this one is somewhat filler.  There is a minor bit of Plot moving forward here, at least.   Our Hero dyes his hair and the vague idea that his face will eventually get too young to hide.  Oh yeah, the evil guy kills some people.  Other than that, not much of interest happens this time.  The sad thing is that I know this thing ends rather abruptly, so maybe time could have been better spent.  I suppose 25 years later is a bit too late to give helpful advice, huh.  I already own the whole thing, so I'm definitely still sticking with this.  As long as they keep the Story moving and stop retreading material we already know, this should pick up.  At least the Show teaches you how to travel in style...

Next time, we learn more about the power that is inside our Hero.  Well that or nothing much happens again.  See you then...

Lost TV: Stephen King's Golden Years- Episode 2

Now that all the set-up is out of the way, this one should really pick up.  Right?

A man comes into Town to investigate the incident, which upsets Huffman.  She suspects that he has an ulterior motive.

Meanwhile, the investigation is started officially, but Dr. Trollhunter is now more attentive and less manic when questioned.  Has he been coached?

As for our Hero, he retakes the Eye Exam that he failed- not knowing that Lauter told the guy to pass him no matter what.  However, he legitimately-passes as his eyes appear to be better!

Confirming her suspicions from earlier, the man confronts a previous witness and kills him!

Not only that, but it is the Priest from Netflix's Daredevil!

Our Hero continues to get younger, his hair starting to turn brown again!  What in the what?!?

Still good, but a little dry. Was I spoiled by the giant explosion last Episode?  Perhaps.  Either way, this one is more about slow build-up for the rest of the Series.  We do get some intrigue with this new player- granted.  Otherwise, it is alot of talk about what is going to happen or what people are going to do.  I'm not going to say that it is filler (since it is important), but it just isn't super-interesting yet.  This one is showing promise and I'm sticking with it (since I already own the DVD) all the same.  It does give a good lesson on how you should eat your Breakfast though...

Next time, more investigation and more cover-up.  As long they don't kill more Character Actors, it will be fine.  See you then...

Lost TV: Stephen King's Golden Years- Episode 1

After doing a ton of The Twilight Zone and all of Twin Peaks (until 2017, of course), I need something new/old to cover.  I picked this 1991 Series Written for TV by Mr. King himself.

Considering that I meant to do this ages ago, I might as well not waste any time.

This is Harlan Williams (no relation to the Comedian).  He's an old man who works at a Defense Department Facility, but will soon be fired due to his Age.

Said Facility is hosting an experiment by Dr. Toddhunter (really, Stephen?!?) involving a Particle Accelerator.  Sadly, he does not create The Flash.

As the device starts to explode, Dr. Trollhunter insists they not stop.  This leads to a bigger explosion and...

Williams being bathed in some sort of glowing energy.  Sadly, he does not become The Hulk.

A General (the late Ed Lauter) and the Head of Security (Felicity Huffman!) investigate what happened.

As he recovers in the Hospital, Williams starts to exhibit weird symptoms.  Where will this lead?

A good start, even if it is just all build-up.  To be fair, how else does something like this work?  They have to introduce all of the Characters, the Setting and set up the events that make the Show.  That is just how that works.  In any event, they do that quite well.  We see our Lead, understand his situation and hope that he can make it work.  They do drag things out a little- like what felt like an eternity arguing over how the light worked-, but it is mostly-paced well.  The pay-off to the light issue is pretty darn good.  The fact that they use it for humor- good.  The Episode features Stephen Root too, so they have a natural asshole to play off of too.  There's some odd stuff going on between Lauter and Huffman's Characters too, so I'm kind of curious where that goes.  In spite of the odd Film-style cut of the Show, I'm going to stick with this either way.  Despite being known for Horror, the only scary part- setting up a bit where 2 octogenarians fooling around in the Shower!

Next time, what symptoms will Williams show?  Will the Government find out?  See you then...
