Did we need another Remake of Day of the Dead, the least-beloved of Romero's Trilogy- really? I guess so...
The Film begins with Zombies running around- let's piss some people off right away- and killing people. As a woman's blouse pops open while running, we get...
4 Hours Earlier. Cue Rick & Morty bit here.
Yadda yadda Stalker yadda yadda Med Student yadda yadda outbreak. Everyone but her dead.
Oh and our first Zombie is fat and purple. I just thought that I should mention that.
After that flashback ends, we get TOLD that 5 Years had passed and she's living in a nearby Military Bunker. They farm and survive, so...yeah, it's everyone's least favorite part of The Walking Dead.
This is a 'reimagining' according to all of the Press Material and the Poster.
It's just a Remake though. Here's the a-hole Lieutenant to prove it.
Can the group (of mostly nameless nobodies) survive as things get worse?
Or will the new Bob- the Stalker who is somehow a smart Zombie- be the end of this fragile existence?
To find out, stream this Film already.
Damn silly Film. It's not a great Remake of a Classic Film. Is it better than the last one? Maybe. On one hand, it is closer in regards to the Story, so that's a plus. On the other hand, it's so close to the original Story that it suffers by comparison. The Film just raises so many questions that it cannot answer. Just a sample of them for you, if you'll indulge me. How did half of the first victims even get infected (they aren't shown)? Why did the first Zombie die hours later and then become a Zombie? How does Not-Bob keep part of his organs alive in the transformation? Even accepting that, how do his heart and brain work when other organs like his Kidneys are dead? Why does he wait around the Campus for FIVE YEARS? How does he get to the base on the same day as the people who were driving Jeeps? I can almost accept him finding the place- since it was apparently just one straight road to and from the places- in time, but not so quickly! How is everyone so bad at dealing with Zombies after five years of dealing with Zombies? So yeah, a few inconsistencies and issues. All in all, it's a decent Film, especially if you don't know the original. If you do, however, just watch that one. It has less fake CG blood spatter, less plot holes and way more iconic imagery. Seeing the two Zombies, it really is a case of Nicholson Joker vs. Leto Joker isn't it?
A passable Zombie Film if they could have just done their own thing. Unfortunately, it's a Romero Remake and, well, that's just going to sink what little good ideas may be here.
