Mondo Anniversaries: 40 Years!

As we close out the year, I want to take a look back at the anniversaries of films. Today's subject: films celebrating their 40th Anniversaries.

Godzilla's Revenge- Yeah, let's try to forget this one. We don't need to recall the film where Godzilla's son can talk and befriends a small boy in a parallel story to his own. Oh yeah, it's all a dream too. Good times.

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage- That's more like it. This kick-started Argento's 'Animal Trilogy' and his career in the Giallo market. Good stuff.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service- For all of you who complained about the Quantum of Solace's 'action over story' approach, check out this movie. James Bond gets all sappy, battles Kojak and even gets married. Of course, she dies in the ending and is never really mentioned again, making this whole movie: Entirely Pointless.

Death Rides A Horse- This little Public Domain film stars John Phillip Law as a cowboy- isn't that enough? On top of that, he has teamed up with Lee Van Cleef (a pro at those) in a revenge tale. If someone ever makes a good print available (the current one is very gray), check this baby out.

I also have to give a shout-out to some other films of note: The Magic Christian, The Wild Bunch, Once Upon A Time in the West, Blood of Dracula's Castle, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Gamera vs. Guiron & They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

Next up, the films of 1979. Can they match up to the quality so far? Stay tuned...
