Forgotten Toons: Courage the Cowardly Dog

Okay, if you like horror films and weirdness, you owe it to yourself to see this show. No longer making new episodes and with nary a DVD release in sight (it has appearances on Cartoon Network collection sets only), it is a tricky thing, but well worth your time!

The plot is simple: a dog named Courage lives with an old couple named Eustice and Muriel in the middle of Nowhere. That's actually what the area is called in the show! They live in a tiny farm house that has dust for crops and no immediate neighbors for miles. In spite of their isolation, crazy shit keeps showing up at their door....literally.

*Alien ducks appear in a few episodes. They happen to have Manchester accents. No, I don't know why.

*A were-weasel runs amok in the first episode, literally scaring Courage out of his skin.

*A tornado turns Muriel into a little girl, so Courage must fly a plane into another one to fix her.

*The group visit a strange island culture built around the worship of a giant stone man and a gold hat.

*In one my personal favorites, a maniacal TV pitchman tries to mind-control the entire town with a commercial and the power of Flan.

This show is weird, twisted and totally for kids. That said, a crazy adult like me can find so much to love about it. If you ever see it on, watch and enjoy- I know that I do.

Up next, a show that combines the two things that kids love best: extreme sports and sharks. Stay tuned...
