Poor Bastards of Cinema: Ice-Cream Man

1995's Ice Cream Man is notable for a couple of reasons.  For starters, it's the lone non-porn film by it's director, it was written by a man who would go on to make romantic comedies like Fred Claus and, of course, it stars my aunt.  In addition to all of that, it stars one poor bastard...

Nearly all of the deaths here are pointless, even by slasher movie standards.  One of them stands out a bit more to me.  In one of the first scenes, our young heroes are hanging out on the playground.  A weird maintenance man lingers about picking up leaves.  After the kid leaves, the villain approaches and kills...the old man?

Why?  What point did that serve?  Did it somehow get you closer to the kids?  Think, man- think!

Next up, a special update shows you the fate of a boy who- while he survives the films- is made worse for it.  This one is just plain odd.  Stay tuned...

  2. Stands out for me because of creepy ol' Clint Howard. And the kid calling him an "Ice Cream Dick."
