Quick Holiday Flix: The Love Witch (2016)

As this Day celebrates Love and Courtship, what better time to talk about this Style Parody?  Here we go...

In the wake of the death of her Husband (due to a Potion she made), this lovely Witch goes to San Francisco.

Quick- Nancy Pelosi represents Witches!  Alert the gang at Infowars!

In town, she seeks Mr. Right.  It is like Eat, Pray, Love if she prayed to a Snake (like Alan Moore).

Her Love Magic is powerful, but will any man match up to her standards?

When a body or two shows up, will the fuzz catch on to her magical shenanigans?

Will she able to escape justice by romancing the man trying to solve her crimes?

Will this tale end in romance or loss?  To find out, watch the Film.

Basically a Charles Busch Film.  This one is a real interesting one to talk about on the surface.  They go for and nail the Tone and Style of a trippy 1960s Film.  The Art Direction and Set Design are real standouts here.  The Film looks like it came right out of 1965.  Here's the thing: looks are only part of it.  The actual Story is decent at times, but never quite connected with me.  The titular Character could be one-dimensional, but she has surprising depth.  Even so, the whole thing was a bit too long (nearly 2 Hours) and only had so much Story to tell.  If you like these Genre Spoofs/Homages, this one will probably work for you on some level.  As for me, The Love Witch was pretty, but a bit shallow.  On the plus side, I got to find something new to censor: a Painting.

An interesting attempt at copying a Genre Film in all its glory.  The end result is somewhat mixed though- oh well.
