Immediate Response: The Amazing Spider-Man

Just got crammed into an auditorium to see the all-new, slightly-redone Spider-Man trilogy reboot.  What did I think?
The Good
* Good Writing overall and some decent Spider-Man quips.  You saw the best one in the Trailers though.
* Good effects.  The Lizard- not a SPOILER- is a fully-realized creation that moves and acts in the appropriate ways.
* Lots of Science here, which makes it all feel realistic enough.
* While I'm a purist, I do like the new suit.  It comes about naturally enough.  Plus, actual web-shooters- yea.
* Lots of good performances here, including the always-reliable Emma Stone and a convincing Andrew Garfield.

The Bad
* The Lizard never quite looks real.  It's hard to explain it, but you'll get it when you see it.  I would have liked to see some practical effects involved.  That's always my big issue though.
* There are a lot of unanswered questions here.  This is an obvious 'series starter,' but there are better ways to do that (see Batman Begins).
* C. Thomas Howell is in the movie.  He's not really bad here, but he's still in it.  Watch Soul Man and see if you still think otherwise.

As a whole, the movie feels like a good start.  If it does build up a Trilogy and all of the questions are answered, the Plot issues can be forgiven.  If they can make the Special Effects blend a bit better, that would be great too.

If you liked the Raimi films, you'll like this one.  It's good...but not great.
