Can we just stop mutating things? Today's Film is Unnatural, a 2015 Sci-Fi Horror Film set *way* up North. To note, my copy is Maneater. Big whoop- wanna fight about it? The Plot involves a group of people up North under attack by a strange creature. Can they survive? Can they get along? Can they figure out what exactly it is? The Film has an interesting Cast that features Ray Wise, James Remar, 'That Indian Guy from Everything' and 'Audrey' from Twin Peaks. That Show sounds interesting- I should check it out! The Film has a relatively-low Budget too- listed on IMDB as $3 Million-, so that's kind of interesting. There's a bit of an Old School feel to this one, while also not being stuck too much in cliche. It is a tricky balance, you know. To find out how it turned out (minus SPOILERS), read on...

This lady escapes from a Research Lab as something kills everyone around her. She doesn't know how to stop the creature...
The Guests- a pair of Models and the Crew. Naturally, THIS is where these Photos make sense...
The creatures makes its move while they are out taking Photos and it sure is sneaky.
Now aware of a threat, can the Guide keep everyone safe?
Will they find out the truth behind 'Audrey' and what her work is?
With a more-than-normal apex predator on the loose, who will make it out alive (if anyone?)? To find out, watch the Film.
Good stuff, but nothing great. The Film is a pretty simple Creature Feature. What it does a little bit differently is to try and focus on the Characters. The mutated Beast is notable, but never completely takes over the Film. In that regard, it works well. The only problem is that the Characters aren't quite rich enough to make it work all the way. They aren't quite cliche, but none of them really stand out in a major way. As such, the interaction is not as interesting as perhaps it is meant to be. That said, I still like this approach to the Genre. The creature itself isn't a CG abomination and is shown fleetingly for effect. I guess you could argue that alot of this was due to the Budget, but I'd rather give them credit for being different. I like the logic behind the creature to, as it feels just realistic enough to be extra scary. This isn't the perfect attempt at this kind of Film, but it is still a good one. If you like to avoid the usual Syfy-style stuff, give this one a look. If nothing else, you get to see a Twin Peaks reunion before 2017...
Next up, some more new stuff. With so many choices, who knows what will come next? Stay tuned...
Did you ever check out the Beast of the Bering Sea? The SFX in that were craptactular. Especially the creatures.
ReplyDeleteI Redboxed Dark Was the Night recently. It wasn't too bad. Worth a watch I'd say.
