Forgotten Toons: Mortal Kombat/Savage Dragon

Hey kids, do you like cartoons? You do? Great. Do you also like comic books and video games as well? Great. We, the good folks at the USA Network have a great block of programming for you. Let's start with...
Remember that game that you played at the arcade, but never told your parents about? Now you can watch a show about it. But there's no blood, guts or fatalities. What is left? Um....Raiden. That's enough, right?
*
The show is basically about the heroes (Raiden, Kung-Lao, etc) who battle the evil forces of Outworld. That is pretty much it. You weren't expecting Ran, were you? It's got robots in it too though. Plus, lots of jumping, flipping and kicking. You guys like those 'new' Jackie Chan movies, right? Yeah, we've got nothing. Just hold on for another fifteen minutes so that you can enjoy the other show in the block...
Savage Dragon
Everyone's favorite cult-comic full of violence, nudity and super-violence (i.e. God being kicked in the nuts) is now animated and on your televisions. Nothing was sacrificed in the transition. Well, all of the violence and nudity are gone. He's still a mutant cop though...but he never draws his gun at all. In fact, nobody draws their guns at all. Wait, don't leave yet!
*
In this show, a man with no memory wakes up as a big, green mutant with a fin. Naturally, he joins the police force and fights other mutants. Plus, he makes friends with other green people. An evil mutant crime-boss is trying to take over the city and only our steroid-abusing friend can stop him. That's enough plot for you kiddies.
*
Some of you may say that a superhero story notable for its violent tone and cursing is really not all that interesting when you take away those two factors. That is just nay-saying though. Sure, the plots are standard, the voice-acting is adequate and the animation is not really notable at all. All of those things make it sound boring. Yeah, our bad. Maybe we should stick to doing these kinds of shows on cable.

What happens when you don't tone down the source material for the cartoon medium? Find out shortly. Stay tuned...
