After being busy on Friday and Saturday, you just know I had to get in before Monday.
Let's take a trap with...
The Good
* A big, bold tale that also manages to stay anchored (for the most part) with its Characters.
* The Visuals are what you get when you throw money at Sam Raimi (and company). It has many of his usual tricks that you (hopefully) love.
* America Chavez is a Character that gets a nice Arc and hopefully impacts the MCU more (like, for instance, in a Young Avengers Film).
* Cumberbatch himself really goes all in, giving Strange his own emotional Arc and playing multiple Versions of himself.
* The Film rides the line of PG-13 well, cutting just enough at key points to make the MPAA happy. Counting down the days until they announce an R-Rated Cut (exclusively on Hulu)...
* No SPOILERS, but the Cameos are great. Does one redeem a previous take on a Character?
* Michael Stulhbarg getting Credited on the Poster for like, 3 minutes of screen time (in this cut). Good for you.
* The sometimes-subtle Evil Dead references. Do these spirits sound familiar to anyone else?
The Bad
* The Film can be a bit disjointed with how it cuts between locations and characters. Some blame this on COVID restrictions while shooting. Is that it?
* While she eventually gets her due, poor America Chavez is victimized/targeted by everyone. It's an Arc, I know...but you feel for her after a while.
* The Film is definitely a bit darker than other MCU Films, so don't see it with the younger kiddies.
* Introducing a talking, green Cow Man with NO EXPLANATION. I need answers!
* After all of the Theories and build-up, will people be satisfied with the Cameos? That's not a Film issue, of course.
* Saying the words 'Nightmare' and 'Dreams' about 100 times without giving us Nightmare. Also no Sleepwalker (personal gripe).
In summary, DSitMoM is a big, fun mess of a Story (by design). It still has the Action, Excitement and Emotional Payoff that you expect from an MCU Film.
