I had some very divisive thoughts about this one when I first watched it.
As such, I waited a bit to review it.
How do I feel now?
The Film takes place after Alien, but before Aliens. To be fair, that gives you a good 60 years to play with, as Alien- Isolation showed us.
Our Heroes work on a Weiland Yutani Mining Planet and don't have a way off...until a ship floats nearby.
They go up to the ship and get on board, using the Android owned by our Lead (as all of these MUST have an Android in them) to get into certain rooms.

However, his credentials are lacking (and he's a decade out of date), so they take a chip from a nearby downed Android, which keeps them safe for now.
Ah yes, the proverbial elephant in the room.

So, Ian Holm died in 2020, but his PS3 Ghost appears here reprising his character from Alien.
I know that his family signed off on it (after a nice check, I'm sure).
Even still, I'm...not comfortable with this.
Speaking of discomfort, the ship is full of Alien face huggers.

They were experimenting on the body of the Alien (which wasn't launched into space?) to make humans more powerful and whatever.
Now they have some Aliens to deal with.
Can our surviving Heroes escape the Aliens and escape the ship?

Does the Film have some new ideas?
Will it still mine that sweet, sweet nostalgia?
Positives first, now.
The Film looks great. It really feels like an Alien Film.
The Characters aren't exactly complex, but you feel for them in their situation.

The Xenomorphs, as always, look great. The mix of CGI and Suits is always welcome.
The Film also works in some small part as a bridge between the original Alien Film and Prometheus, something that was oddly lacking.
Say what you will about the Star Wars Prequels (and I do!), but there was no mistaking the connections.

The Film also has some fun set pieces and creativity.
Now the big negative- the CGI Ghost of Ian Holm.
Granted- this is not like WB and the whole Flash situation. They asked permission this time.
Even so, was this necessary? No.
Does it look good? No.

Also, how the hell is Rook around? That ship blew up, so...yeah.
All in all, the Film delivers in a way that Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead did not.
I just worry that this trend of dead Actors being used like this (and so badly) doesn't become a real thing.
