Tubi Thursday: Mindkiller/Mind Killer (1987)

Let's start the Month out with a... confusing yawn.

This one has been lingering around my Tubi Queue since, well, forever.

Let me finally get to it...

A nervous, but smart guy has a problem.

He can't get a woman.

Since the Internet was in its infancy, he turned to self-help books and not Twitter/4Chan.
He'd stumble across a manuscript that talked about how to 'open the mind' and 'take control.'

He finds himself able to influence people's thoughts and make them commit certain actions.

This box art is kind of a lie btw.
Skipping way ahead, his buddy- who found the manuscript- is using the information to pick up/mind control ladies.  He's keeping a page that would let the guy use the full power.

Despite getting the girl, there's still resistance and he's still super insecure.

This leads to him becoming...a live action Spongebob Squarepants character?!?
In the final 10 minutes, we get a second creature- the guy mutated further- and some inspired creature design.

Too little too late?

The MacGuffin device destroys him and the buddy keeps getting chicks.
Nobody learned a lesson.

The End.
A Film that is way too dull for such a silly Plot.

A Film by a guy who shares the name of a Horror Movie Villain should be better.
I'd say 'Damn you, Director Michael Krueger'...but he died in 1990.

I couldn't find a ton of information on this one, but it seems to be a pretty low-budget Film.  It was definitely shot on video and had 'in camera' effects for its big moments (in the finale).

As I've said about many other Films, the Budget is not the biggest issue here.

Our Lead is insufferable.  The Plot is slow.
The Acting is not great.

If this one was either way better or way dumber, it would be fun.
As it is, the Movie is kind of dry until suddenly it gets loud, graphic and flashing.

On the plus side, streaming this on Tubi was easier to do than buying this tape and then remembering to rewind it.

A Film that is emblematic of the many, many cheap shot-on-video Films.  Did I say that just to use the word 'emblematic?'

Yes.
